2008 Poker Tournament

The poker is just about a month away. I have given out tickets to a couple players, but still need to get the rest out soon. Each player will be responsible to sell 5 tickets at the start. If you sell them quickly, you can get more to sell. We are also hoping promoting the tournament in different arenas will allow us to sell them all as well... if you know of a good place to take a flyer to promote the tournament, please do so. Please put my contact information on the flyer.
Craig Coovert, Head Fastpictch Coach- Bellarmine Prep, 253-973-9389

Also, we want to use this blog as a place to discuss what's going on with our ticket sales. If we are struggling to sell them, if someone needs more to sell, etc. Please try to check this blog often for updates. We can simply comment on this post to create that conversation.

Thanks for everyone for helping with this, I think it will be a good fund raiser!

The Lions had a tough extra inning loss to the Olympia Bears last week. The Lions came back and tied the game in the bottom of the 7th, and had the winning run at third with one out in the 8th. But ended up giving up 8 runs to Olympia in the top of the 9th, which essentially ended the game.

Bellarmine 6 Mt. Tahoma 5

Bellarmine got out to an early lead, then watched it vanish, but came through with a run in the top of the 7th inning to edge Mt. Tahoma 6-5.

SS Lynsey Moroz tripled to lead off the 7th, then scored on a passed ball, which turned out to be the eventual winning run. The Thunderbirds had a runner reach second base with one out in the bottom of the 7th, but the Lions were able to keep her there. P Anna Olson retired Mt. Tahoma's #3 hitter on a pop-up, and struck out their #4 hitter to end the game.

Olson pitched all 7 innings for the win, striking out 7 and giving up 3 earned runs. Moroz had 3 hits, including two triples. RF Paige Redmon also had 3 hits, including a triple to lead off the game. 1B Alexis North joined the triple club as well.

The Lions play league opponent Olympia on Wednesday at home, and travel to Fife for a non-league game on Thursday.

Stadium 6 Bellarmine 0

The Bellarmine Lions hung around with the top team in the league Stadium for much of the game, but in the end Stadium proved to be too much to handle as they dropped their second league game of the season Monday.

The Lions were within striking distance most of the game, only down one run for the first three innings, and down four through the first six. The Lions even mounted a mini rally in the 5th inning, collecting three straight hits off of one of the leagues best pitchers, but they were unable to cross the plate, as they had one runner thrown out at the plate, and another stranded at third. For the game, the Lions collected 5 hits, all by different players.

Bellarmine pitcher Anna Olson fell to 2-2 on the year, pitching a complete game. Only 3 of the 6 runs scored off of Olson were earned, as the Lions committed 4 errors in the game.

Bellarmine plays Wilson, the other top team in the league on Wednesday at Bellarmine.

Bellarmine 6 North Kitsap 0

Sophomore Anna Olson fanned 13 and only allowed 4 hits leading Bellarmine to a 6-0 win over league opponent North Kitsap in Poulsbo Wednesday afternoon. Olson has yet to give up an earned run in 21 innings so far this season.

Bellarmine jumped to an early lead in the first with an RBI single by Olson, but the two teams traded zeros after that until the fifth, when Bellarmine was able to tack on two insurance runs. After getting out of a bases load jam in the bottom of the sixth, Bellarmine put the game away with three more runs in the 7th.

Leading hitters for Bellarmine were CF Paige Redmon who collected 3 hits, with C Ciarra Pederson and Olson getting two hits apiece. SS Lysnsey Moroz added a hit, and 2 SB.

Next on the schedule for Bellarmine is Stadium, Monday at their home field.

Central Kitsap 2 Bellarmine Prep 0

Central Kitsap edged out Bellarmine(0-1, 1-1) in a close contest at Bellarmine Prep by a score of 2-0. Central grabbed the lead early by scoring a run in the top of the first on a miscue by Bellarmine. The teams traded zeros until the 6th, when Central was able to add an insurance run, once again helped by a fielding error by the Lions.

The Lions hung close the whole game, and actually out hit Central 5 hits to 3, but were unable to get that key hit to bring home a run. Twice Bellarmine left a runner at third to end an inning.

Bellarmine's Anna Olson had another strong outing on the mound, giving up only 3 hits, and did not allow an earned run, keeping her season ERA at 0.00. Olson and catcher Ciarra Pederson did a great job of keeping the Central Kitsap hitters off balance at the plate. Olson's record now stands at 1-1, 0-1 in league play.

Bellarmine had 5 hits, all by different players. Pederson, Lynsey Moroz, Pagie Redmon, Leah Barta and Alex Pollastro collected one hit a piece.

A lot of positives came from this game, even though it was a loss. The Lions saw they could play toe to toe with last years Bay Division champions, who twice beat the Lions by 10 runs last season.

Next up on the schedule for Bellarmine is a trip to North Kitsap on Wednesday.

Game Recap: Bellarmine 8 Lakes 0

Our first official game of the season, after hosting a successfull jamboree the previous weekend took place at Lakes High School in Lakewood. Lakes is 3A team, so this was a cross-classification game.

After starting slow with the bats, the Lions came alive scoring scoring 8 runs in the last 5 innings, ammassing 14 hits along the way. Catcher Ciarra Pederson led the lions with 3 hits, Angie Sutherland, Paige Redman, and Caitlin Fewins each had 2 hits a piece.

Anna Olson dominated on the mound, pitching a complete game no-hitter, collecting 7 k's along the way. She only allowed 2 baserunners the whole game, one reaching on an error and the other reaching on a walk.

The only downer in the game was an injury to senior captain Alexis North. Alexis pulled a hamstring stretching for a bang-bang play at 1B. Luckily, initial diagnosis for Alexis is she will be out of action for only 1 week.

Next up for the Lions is a home game again Puyallup on Friday, March 17. Hopefully the weather coorperates.
