Private Instruction

Just wanted to let everyone know that I plan to start offering private instruction in fastpitch. I have really grown to love coaching the sport, and want to pass on my knowledge to players of any age who want to get better and succeed in the sport.

If you know of anyone looking for private instruction, pass my information onto them. I will have more details on this once the season is over. My points of teaching emphasis will be on hitting, defense, and mental part of the game.

We have a home game against Olympia today. Game starts at 4pm. Tomorrow we travel across town to Wilson. And finish off the week at home against Shelton on Friday.

Bellarmine 4 Thomas Jefferson 3

The Lions had a strong non-league win against SPSL North team Thomas Jefferson on Thursday, April 9. The teams went back and forth with leads as Jefferson jumped out to early 1-0 lead, but Bellarmine came back to take the lead 2-1 in the second. However, Jefferson took the lead back with a 2 run 4th inning, and held that 3-2 lead until the bottom of the 6th. In the 6th, Junior Lynsey Moroz hit a two-run, two-out single to give the Lions a 4-3 lead. Pitcher Anna Olson then pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to preserve the non-league win.

Bellarmine 5 Gig Harbor 1

Bellarmine continued it's road winning streak, making it three wins in a row on the road, and now sees its league record at 4-1 going into Spring Break. The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, loading the bases in the first, but ended the rally early by hitting into a double play. That would be the storyline of the game, as Bellarmine had 17 baserunners reach base, but were only able to have 5 of those runners cross homeplate. However, 5 runs were more than enough for Anna Olson who pitched a complete game, striking out 8, and only giving up the one run.

8 of the 9 starters had hits for Bellarmine, leading the was Kelly McLaughlin who was 3-4 with a 3b and 2 RBIs. Haley Dusek and Leah Barta each had 2 hits.

Next up for the Lions is a non-league against Jefferson of the SPSL today (Thursday), then a week off for Bellarmine's Spring Break. The Lions jump right back into action when they return from break, traveling to Central Kitsap on the Monday they return.

San Diego Trip Recap

The Bellarmine Prep Lady Lion Softball team returned from a successful trip to San Diego on Monday, with three games under their belt, ready to start their league schedule. (however, the weather isn't coorperating).

Game Scores:
Cathedral Catholic 9 Bellarmine 0
Game Notes: Bellarmine made 6 errors in the first three innings, which led to 6 unearned runs. Bellarmine held Cathedral scoreless for the final 3 innings. Lauren Schilter went 2-3 in the game, and Haley Dusek went 1-1 with a walk

Bellarmine Prep 12 Canyon Crest 2
Game Notes: Bellarmine came out swinging right away, scoring 5 runs in the first inning, and never looked back. As a team Bellarmine recorded 15 hits. Anna Olson pitched the first 5 innings for the win, and Sarah Sorrensen came in to pitch the last two.

Horizon Christian 1 Bellarmine Prep 0
Game Notes: Bellarmine faced quite possibly the best pitcher in Souther California, but battled to the bitter end, even getting the go ahead run to second base at one point, but ultimately fell short. The highlight of this game was freshman Sarah Sorrensen making her first career start for the Lions, going 5 innings and only giving up 1 run.

The team thanks everyone who helped make it possible for this trip to happen. It was a great experience on and off the field.

Girls will either need to bring their bags to school with them, or arrange a parent to bring their bags at 2:30pm. We can bring girls back to Bellarmine for pick-up, or you can pick your daughter up at the airport. We will discuss packing, and all that fun stuff as we get closer to the trip date, as we will need to pack light.
Please call or email me if you have any questions: coove14@gmail.com or 973-9389.

Also, to let everyone know, tryouts start on Monday, March 2 and will run for three days. At the end of the third day, we will let the players know if they made a team, and what team that is.

It is important for players and parents of players who make varsity to know that the varsity team will be making a trip to San Diego this season to play 3 non-league games. The dates of this trip are Wed. March 18 - Sunday, March 22. The players will miss two days of school for this trip. There will be a cost associated with this trip too, however since the returning varsity players did well fundraising during the off-season, the cost will be low (probably around $200).

If you have any questions, you can ask them here, or shoot me an email at cooverca@plu.edu or give me a call 253-973-9389.

Thanks everyone!
