Becca Sorensen walked to open the
third. Alyssa McKiernan singled infield
to move Sorensen to second. When the
throw to second was wild, Sorensen took third.
McKiernan then stole second.
After an out Alex DeStephano worked her way back from an 0-2 count (on
her way to a 10-pitch at bat) and drove a ball to the fence in left for a
triple scoring Sorensen and McKiernan.
Rachel Sorensen singled to left to open
the fourth. Celine Woo singled to left
to move Sorensen to second. Ashlynn Ota
grounded to the third baseman to force Sorensen at third. Becca Sorensen ripped the first pitch down
the left field line for an inside the park home run scoring Woo and Ota before
her.
Yelm used a one out walk, a stolen base,
and a two out single to get a run in the fifth.
Alex DeStephano doubled to left to open
the fifth. Rachel Barcena put down a
perfect sacrifice bunt to move DeStephano to third. Erica Grenlund tripled to the fence in left
to score DeStephano. Rachel Sorensen
again singled to left to score Grenlund.
Celine Woo singled infield to move Sorensen to second. Ashlynn Ota was hit by a pitch to load the
bases. After a second out Alyssa
McKiernan dropped a single into right to score Sorensen and Woo and to move Ota
to third. Courtney Schwan singled to
right to score Ota.
Courtney Schwan started and went the
distance for the win. She struck out
eight and walked two. She retired the
first Yelm batter in six out of seven innings.
Another milestone happened. Tri-captain Alexa Ostrander was back (on the
bench) with the team despite still being sick.
Good defensive plays were made by Rachel
Sorensen who ran down a drive to right center to save a run and end the 2nd; by
Courtney Schwan who knocked down a grounder up the middle and recovered in time
to still get the batter for the second out in the 3rd; and by Becca Sorensen
who went behind first to catch a shallow fly to end the game.
