Rogers 6 Bellarmine 5

May 19, 2012                   Sprinker #7                  6:10

Bellarmine      1 0 2   0 2 0   0 0     5 – 12 - 4

Rogers          0 0 1   2 0 1   1 1     6 -  9 - 2

Courtney Schwan and Abby McDonald

Ashley Maxwell, Tess Dixon (5) and Rylee Whispel

Haley Dusek singled to right to open the game.  Alexa Ostrander sacrificed Dusek to second.  After a second out Courtney Schwan grounded to the second baseman.  When the throw to first was wide, Dusek came around to score.

Alexa Ostrander singled to right to open the third.  Alex DeStephano singled to center to move Ostrander to second.  Courtney Schwan doubled to left center to score Ostrander and DeStephano.

Rogers used a single, a stolen base, and a single to get a run in the third.

Rogers used a single, a stolen base, a ground out, a two-out single, an error, and a single to get two runs in the fourth.

Courtney Schwan beat out an infield single with one out in the fifth.  Madeline Lilly courtesy ran for Schwan.  Sarah Sorensen beat out a bunt single to move Lilly to second.  When the pitcher overthrew first, Lilly went to third.  After a second out Rachel Sorensen tripled to left center to score Lilly and Sarah Sorensen.

Rogers used a leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly to get a run in the sixth even though the runner left early.

Rogers used a one-out single, an error, and another error to get a run in the seventh.

Rogers used a one-out single, a walk, and a two-out single to get a run in the eighth.

Good defensive plays were made by Alex DeStephano who came off the bag at first to pull down a high throw and still tagged the batter for the first out in the 2nd; by Rachel Barcena who handled a shot to third and threw the batter out for the second out in the 5th; by Becca Sorensen who made a circus catch in deep left center to rob the batter of at least a double for the first out (I still believe the runner from third left too early) in the 6th; by Alexa Ostrander who caught a line drive to end the 6th; and by Courtney Schwan who snagged a shot up the middle and held the runners at third and second before throwing the batter out at first for the second out in the 7th.

Courtney Schwan started and again went the distance.  Only 4 of the six runs were earned.  Those few people who did not know how good a pitcher she was found out at this tournament.

The Lions finished second in the West Central District III – South West District IV Tournament.  That means the Lions will get a number one seed into the State Tournament in Spokane next weekend.

Alexa Ostrander was hit by a pitch to open the fifth.  Alex DeStephano singled to left to move Ostrander to second.  Courtney Schwan singled to center to score Ostrander and to move DeStephano to third.  Madeline Lilly courtesy ran for Schwan.  Sarah Sorensen grounded to the second baseman to score DeStephano while Lilly was forced at second.  Becca Sorensen beat out an infield single to move Sarah Sorensen to second.  Rachel Sorensen grounded a ball through the second baseman which scored Sarah Sorensen and moved Becca Sorensen to third.  Rachel Sorensen then stole second.  Rachel Barcena singled to left to score Becca Sorensen and to move Rachel Sorensen to third.  Barcena then stole second.  After a second out Haley Dusek singled to center to score Rachel Sorensen and Barcena.

Alex DeStephano doubled down the left field line to open the sixth.  Courtney Schwan singled to right center to score DeStephano.

Good defensive plays were made by Alexa Ostrander who (with runners on second and first) fielded a grounder in the hole and threw to Rachel Barcena to get the lead runner at third for the second out in the 2nd; and by Haley Dusek who went way to her right and threw to Alex DeStephano who made a nice stretch for the first out in the 6th.

Courtney Schwan started and again went the distance for the win.  She struck out 4 and gave up only one earned run.  After we made six errors in the first two innings, she took charge and dominated the rest of the game.  She threw just 50 pitches over the last five innings.

This win put the Lions in the championship game.
