Kelly McLaughlin singled to left to open the game. Alexa Ostrander put down a nice sacrifice
bunt to move McLaughlin to second. After
a second out Courtney Schwan crushed an 0-1 pitch into left center for a home
run scoring McLaughlin before her.
Becca Sorensen singled to right with one
out in the second. Sorensen took third
when the ball got by the right fielder.
Celine Woo grounded to third to score Becca Sorensen. When the throw to first was wide, Woo was
safe at first. Rachel Sorensen singled
to center to move Woo to second. Kelly
McLaughlin lined a single to right center to score Woo and to move Sorensen to
third. Alexa Ostrander grounded to short
to score Rachel Sorensen.
Courtney Schwan singled to left to open
the third. Alexis Mendez courtesy ran
for Schwan. Alex DeStephano singled to
center to move Mendez to second. Sarah
Sorensen grounded out second to first to move the runners to third and second. Becca Sorensen singled to right to score
Mendez.
Kentwood used a single, a stolen base, a
single, and an infield out to get a run in the fourth.
Rachel Sorensen singled infield to open
the sixth. Kelly McLaughlin was hit in
the helmet by a pitch to move Sorensen to second. Sorensen took third when the catcher threw
the ball into right field on a pickoff attempt at first. After an out Haley Dusek doubled to left
center to score Rachel Sorensen.
Good defensive plays were made by Alexa
Ostrander who played the hop perfectly and threw to Alex DeStephano who dug the
ball out of the dirt to get the first out in the 1st; by Alex DeStephano who
charged a topped ball and threw to Haley Dusek covering first to end the 1st;
by Celine Woo who charged a bunt and threw the batter out for the first out in
the 2nd; by Courtney Schwan who fielded a come backer and threw wide of third
where Celine Woo recovered and threw wide of home where Abby McDonald quickly
recovered the ball and flipped to Courtney Schwan (who alertly covered home)
for the second out in the 2nd; by Kelly McLaughlin who chased down a triple and
relayed to Haley Dusek who relayed to Alex DeStephano who threw to Abby
McDonald who blocked the plate and tagged the batter (trying for a home run)
out to end the 3rd; by Abby McDonald who blocked a third strike in the dirt and
threw the batter out for the first out in the 5th; by Haley Dusek who went way
to her right and threw to Alex DeStephano who fielded the ball on one hop for
the second out in the 6th; and by Sarah Sorensen who caught a fly ball in right
to end the game.
Courtney Schwan started and again went the
distance for the win. She struck out 2
and more importantly walked none. She
threw a mere 74 pitches in the five-hit win.
This win guaranteed that the Lions would
go to State.
